Do our surroundings shape our identity?

I've recently been exploring the affects of our surroundings on our identity. Does our identity change depending on where we live? Can our surroundings restrict or benefit who we are?..

The images I've created are mixed-media/digital pieces using photography, Photoshop manipulation and print, combined with illustration.
